Terms of Service
Last updated: 27 October 2026
1. What ChemLab is
ChemLab (chemlab.study) is an online study tool for A-level chemistry: revision notes, interactive simulations, practical walkthroughs and quizzes. By creating an account or using the site you agree to these terms. If you are below the age of digital consent in your country, ask a parent or guardian to agree to them for you.
2. Lab safety — read this one
The practical walkthroughs describe experiments from the official A-level specifications for use in a school or college laboratory, under the supervision of a qualified teacher or technician, following your school's risk assessments and CLEAPSS guidance. Never attempt these experiments at home or unsupervised. ChemLab is a revision aid, not a substitute for professional supervision, and we accept no responsibility for experiments carried out against this instruction.
3. Accounts
Keep your password private; you are responsible for activity on your account. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service (see section 6). You can delete your account at any time from the Account page — deletion is immediate and permanent.
4. Premium subscriptions
- Premium costs €4.99/month or €39.99/year, billed by Stripe, from 28 October 2026 (before then: €9.99/month or €79.99/year). Prices include applicable VAT where charged. Subscriptions that started at €9.99/month or €79.99/year move to the new price automatically from their next renewal after that date — nothing to do, and nothing is charged in between.
- Regional prices: in some countries a lower price applies (€2.99/month or €24.99/year); it is shown before checkout and is for cards issued in that country. A plan bought at the regional price with a card from another country does not start, and any payment for it is refunded. The same applies for as long as the plan runs: if its card is replaced by one from another country, a free trial ends straight away (nothing is charged), a paid plan stops renewing at the end of the period already paid for, and a regional-price payment taken from such a card is refunded and ends the plan.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time from Account → Manage or cancel; you keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Free trial (monthly plan): 7 days free, then the monthly price shown at checkout (€4.99, or the regional price). A card is required to start; nothing is charged during the trial. We email you 2 days before the first charge, and if you cancel before the trial ends you won't be charged at all. A free trial needs a confirmed email address (sign up, open the link we email you, and the trial checkout continues from there). One free trial per person: if the account, its email address or the card used has already had a trial, no new trial starts and nothing is charged. Free trials aren't offered to throwaway (disposable) email addresses, to email-forwarding aliases or forwarding domains, or if the account's email address changes between opening the trial checkout and the trial starting. To stop repeat trials, each network (for example a school, office or mobile network) gets only a couple of free trials a month that haven't turned into a paid plan; when a network has had its share, you can still subscribe straight away, or start your trial from another network. Your bank may ask you to confirm the card when a trial starts. A parent or guardian may pay for a student's account with a link from the app; the payer manages or cancels it from the link in our reminder email, or by replying to any of our emails.
- Refunds: if you're within 14 days of your first Premium purchase and unhappy for any reason, email us and we'll refund it in full. A full refund of a subscription's latest payment ends that subscription: it is cancelled and its Premium stops straight away. This does not affect your statutory rights under EU/UK consumer law.
- We may change prices. We give at least 30 days' notice before a price increase applies to an existing subscription; a price reduction may apply sooner. Changes apply from your next renewal.
- Referrals: when someone who joined with your referral link becomes a paying Premium member (a free trial counts once its first payment goes through), you both get an extra 7 days of Premium (up to 20 referrals). If that payment is refunded or charged back, the extra days are removed again (and a referral whose payment is refunded before the days were added doesn't pay out).
5. Free tier
The notes, simulations, periodic table and quiz preview are free. We may adjust what sits in the free tier over time.
6. Acceptable use
Don't: share one account between many people, attempt to bypass the paywall or interfere with the service, scrape the site for republication, or use it for anything unlawful. Personal study use, including in classrooms, is what it's for and is welcome.
7. Content and accuracy
Content is checked against accredited sources (exam-board specifications, the Royal Society of Chemistry, CLEAPSS, NIST, IUPAC), but we don't guarantee it is error-free, and studying with ChemLab does not guarantee any exam result. Always treat your exam board's official specification as the final authority.
8. Intellectual property
The site, its software, design, text, simulations, diagrams and all other content are © 2026 ChemLab and protected by copyright and database rights. All rights reserved. You may not copy, scrape, republish or redistribute any part of the service except as allowed by law (e.g. fair dealing for private study). Your study data belongs to you — export or delete it any time (see the privacy policy).
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before a claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
10. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; material changes will be dated here and, for subscribers, notified before they take effect. We may discontinue the service with reasonable notice, refunding any remaining paid period pro-rata.
11. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of your country of habitual residence to the extent its consumer protections apply to you, and otherwise by Romanian law. Contact: cristianmateiionescu@gmail.com.
